Gorillaz: The Mountain Tour 2026
Date: October 18, 2026
Location: Ball Arena
When I learned that not only did Gorillaz have a new album out, but that they would go on tour for it, I jumped at the opportunity to see them in concert. This “virtual” band intrigued me because I was curious how they would perform on a stage when their personas are basically just animated. I also enjoyed The Mountain, as it felt reflective of deeper life issues and had at least a few catchy songs on it like Delirium, The Happy Dictator, and Orange County.
For opening acts, this concert had both Deltron 3030 and Little Simz performing. Deltron 3030 was heavier into the rap elements than I was used to, but their sci-fi aesthetic was interesting and entertaining. The standout of the opening acts was definitely Little Simz—who I had only learned about at this concert. She had some truly powerful lyrics and a catchy sound that made me want to explore her music more. Luckily, it looks like she has an extensive discography already, so I should have an easy time integrating more of her music into my collection.
As the stars of the evening, Gorillaz were an act I’m glad I could experience live. Each of the songs was accompanied by its reciprocal music video, thus providing these animated artists with a way to perform the song live. It was easy to identify which album each song came from almost exclusively by how these characters looked on the screen. There was a good mix of songs across all their albums, and they did not disappoint with some of their more famous singles. While most songs sounded the same as what I hear at home, a few had such drastic changes to them that I almost couldn’t recognize them other than by the video playing on the screen. Still, Gorillaz is a band I recommend people go see at least once, and this was a good time to do so.
